Thermal Considerations for X-Band MMICs Under CW Operation
As the need for smaller and higher performing radar systems is increasing, GaN on SiC has become the technology of choice for next generation radar systems. With a GaN on SiC monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC), improved performance SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) in comparison to competing semiconductor technology can be achieved. In addition, these new platforms now require complex pulse modulation schemes or multi-mode capability resulting in the need to transmit continuous wave (CW) type signals.
In this webinar, thermal considerations that need to be accounted for during CW operation will be discussed. To support the need for increased thermal dissipation, two mounting techniques will be reviewed for surface mount (SMT) packages.
