Advanced technologies for Smart Photovoltaic Systems
The Photovoltaic Market is experiencing a tremendous growth but still accounts for only for a minimal part of overall energy production. There is a clear trend, thru the use of advanced electronics, to make solar panels more efficient (helping to produce more energy in case of non ideal conditions), safer (detecting and avoiding hazardous situation) and cheaper (introducing more efficient bypass technologies and therefore saving costs on the junction box) as well as decreasing the price per Wp in central inverter whilst increasing reliability. In this Webinar NXP will discuss the key technological challenges facing designers in the field of PV Solar systems. The specific discussion will highlight the latest semiconductor solutions for solar applications including off-grid, Residential, Commercial and Industrial installations.
NXP Semiconductors is delivering solutions based on their differentiated processes and High Performance Mixed Signal portfolio to bring intelligence and more reliable components to PV solar panels, micro-inverters and central inverters.

Cristiano Castello, NXP Semiconductors, Program and Business Development Manager, Solar Activities
Cristiano joined NXP Semiconductors as “Strategy and Business Development Officer” in the Central R&D group in early 2008, after having worked in NXP / Philips Semiconductors as Strategy Officer. In these roles he formulated and initiated new business opportunities, based on the identification of emerging technologies and markets / product trends and supported the Executive Management Team on business portfolio decisions / executions. Cristiano previously worked as Application Group Leader in Philips Semiconductors and as Field Application Engineer and hardware and firmware in other companies.
Henk Jan Bergveld, Senior Principal, Central Research & Development, Research, Mixed-Signal Circuits and Systems
Henk Jan joined Philips Research Laboratories, Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in 1994. His research interest has been focused on the modeling of rechargeable batteries to design advanced battery management systems. This work resulted in his Ph.D. degree and the book Battery Management Systems—Design by modeling (Boston, MA: Kluwer, 2002). He is currently a Principal Scientist and team leader for power management in the Central Research and Development department with NXP Semiconductors in Eindhoven. Henk Jan is also a Part-time Professor of “Embedded Control in Energy Management” at Eindhoven University of Technology. His main research interests include electronics for PV systems, DC/DC converters, battery management systems for electrical vehicles and class-D amplifiers.
