A network operator faces many decisions in planning and installing a wireless broadband network. The first of these decisions is choosing the appropriate spectrum to meet the needs of the targeted customers. This paper aids in that decision by providing an overview of the commercial radio spectra suitable for data delivery and weighing the advantages and drawbacks of these different bands, focusing particularly on the microwave region. The bands evaluated include: the lower microwave frequencies of UHF and SHF, the millimeter microwave, and the submillimeter microwave, or EHF.
