Wi-Fi Alliance is a global, non-profit organization focused on driving the adoption of a single, worldwide-accepted standard for high-speed wireless local area networking (LAN). Its certification programs have evolved to meet the specific requirements of design innovations, including new types of phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), printers, and mobile devices.

Some of the most anticipated future certification programs are in the areas of simplified setup of security-enabled home networks, radio performance, convergence with cellular, and high throughput. This white paper explains some of the unique elements of the Wi-Fi Alliance certification program and the certification process, and provides insight into how the program is evolving.
