Looking at the press about Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), it may appear to be a failure, but the technology is being deployed—and successfully deployed—by service providers worldwide. So why the bad press for DSL? This paper will explore some of the growing pains serivce providers have experienced deploying DSL, and how these miscues have blunted the potential of the technology to date. It will also explore how the technology has matured and how growing competition from outside forces (like cable companies) has made DSL even more vital to the ongoing success of telcos.
