Wave separation is a central problem in applications in many fields, such as seismic sounding, submarine acoustics, and machine diagnosis. Many sources emit signals, and after propagation the signals are received simultaneously on sensors. The separation consists in recovering the signal emitted by each source. This paper provides a survey of wave separation, presenting signal-processing methods of separation in connection with wave propagation modeling.
