The battlefield is changing. Conflicts involve smaller, nimbler, multi-national forces who are required to deploy anywhere in the world faster than ever before. Communications of voice, video and data have become critical to the successful operation of these forces. This has led to the implementation of network-enabled operations (NEO) as a force multiplier, and has resulted in everything from forward operating bases to vehicular electronics systems architecture adopting a common, IP-based network architecture. This white paper will review the genesis and implementation of the NEO paradigm, and how vehicle electronics, often combined as “Vetronics”, architectures are changing communications among virtually all battlefield assets.
