LDMOS RF power amps dominate the GSM and CDMA base-station markets by providing excellent performance at a competitive cost. One key element to providing high performance with LDMOS amplifiers is compensating the gate bias voltage to maintain a constant quiescent current over temperature. Several solutions currently exist for biasing LDMOS RF power amps, including Dallas Semiconductor’s DS1870 bias controller. This application note shows an alternative analog biasing solution using the DS4303.
