IBIS-AMI models support two different simulation methods called Init and Get_Wave which process impulse response and waveform data, respectively. As such, AMI models can be developed that support Init only, Get_Wave only or both simulation methods. Given that a TX and a RX model are implemented with one of three different styles means that there are nine possible simulation flows that must be handled. This paper discusses the consequences of each flow, how the Clock_PDF is used along with the eye characterization to predict BER and bathtub curves, and how assumptions about jitter characteristics impact simulation results.
