The x32 ABI: A New Software Convention for Performance on Intel 64 Processors
This paper describes the implementation of the x32 application binary interface (ABI) through changes in the Linux kernel, system libraries, and two compilers—gcc and the Intel compiler—and demonstrates that significant performance gains can be achieved on a variety of programs recompiled to the x32 ABI.
