T-MPLS: A New Route to Carrier Ethernet
Transport MPLS (or T-MPLS) is a new formulation
of MPLS, designed specifically for application in
transport networks. It builds upon well-known and
widely deployed IP/MPLS technology and standards,
but offers a simpler implementation, where features
not relevant to connection-oriented applications are
removed and critical transport functionality gaps are
addressed.
T-MPLS thus promises a solution that provides familiar and reliable packet-based technology (MPLS) in a form that is aligned with circuit-based transport networking and that supports current organizational processes, in addition to being client-agnostic. This paper provides an overview of T-MPLS, expanding on the points raised above.
