Surface-Mount Multilayer Capacitors for High-Frequency Applications
In this paper, Vishay’s HIFREQ multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) are compared to leading competitive MLCCs in measuring characteristics such as series insertion loss (S21), series resonant frequency (SRF), parallel resonant frequency (PRF), and ESR. A correlation of power loss is conducted on MLCCs in larger case sizes made with the same electrode and dielectric materials as these devices in smaller case sizes. Thermal imaging is used to compare the MLCC’s heat dissipation while continuous wave (CW) RF power is applied. The measurements presented in this paper intend to show that Vishay’s HIFREQ series MLCCs are a new and exceptional alternative for customers requiring MLCCs for high-frequency applications.
