Speculation and Prediction: A Review of Implemented and Not Yet Implemented Techniques in Modern Microprocessors
This paper provides a survey of the speculative and prediction techniques of today’s modern processors, ranging from the best known techniques, such as branch prediction, to lesser known techniques, such as load hit/miss prediction. The paper also introduces some new ideas that have yet to be implemented.
