High-speed transmissions require pre-emphasis to maintain signal integrity. However, the increasing number of taps makes determining pre-emphasis settings more complex and it is extremely difficult to determine the optimum settings from the many combinations. In our latest study based on ideal-value calculation, we obtained good eye opening results of better than 85% for high- and low-level baseline transmission signals, for both simulated transmission path outputs and measured waveforms. This paper reviews the study that verified the actual waveform using the theoretically calculated pre-emphasis setting.
