This paper demonstrates the system level effects and expected ramifications of designing RFID tags that are smaller than the optimized length. This paper also is concerned with Far Field systems and in particular systems within the UHF band. These RFID systems are more commonly known as EPC Gen 2 systems and they operate within three primary frequency ranges 1) 866MHz 2) 915MHz and 3) 960MHz. These bands are allocated for different geographical areas of the world and all must be considered at some times during the design of an RFID tag or system.
