Processing Unit for a RADAR-based ADAS System
This white paper presents an FPGA-based architecture that hosts the processing unit of a multi-channel Frequency-Modulated Continuous Waves (FMCW) radar system. The system supports 8 channels with a peak data rate of 4.096 Gb/s.
The signal processing consists of performing a 4-step procedure on a received cuboid frame of samples: range processing, Doppler processing, angle preprocessing and detection. To complete the processing within the frame boundary time of 30 ms, the 3 first processing tasks are allocated to hardware accelerators.
This whitepaper specifically addresses:
- FMCW radar system concepts
- Beat signal frame structure
- Processing algorithms
- Processing requirements
- SOC-FPGA architecture and operations
