In the field of embedded systems design, particularly in regard to communication, portable, and multimedia equipment, the complexity of specification is increasing rapidly and requiring implementations that generally include a large scale System-on-a-Chip(SOC) with embedded software. In order to implement an effective marketing-driven strategy for such products in these highly competitive and demanding circumstances, the product development process must allow the product specification phase to be “smoothly” integrated with the product design phase. This paper introduces the concept of SpecC and its design methodology that enables a seamless design flow from system specification to hardware and/or software implementation.
