Intelligent I/O processing for DSP+ARM SoCs
This white paper discusses results of input/output (I/O) processing on the general-purpose processor (GPP) for a DSP-centric programming model using a system-on-chip (SoC) containing both digital signal processor (DSP) and ARM cores. Certain I/O tasks can be offl oaded to the ARM to implement a smart I/O processor with features such as predictive caching, buffer parsing, sequencing and more. There are various implementation choices to make the best use of the ARM to answer questions such as whether an operating system (OS) is needed, and what kind of OS should be considered to boost system-level I/O throughput.
