The present situation of the telecommunications market is characterized by significant technical progress but also by a strong market downturn. The latter results in strong requirements for any new technology to be more efficient and cheaper. From a technological point of view, the main trend at the moment is the work on dynamic transport networks under de-centralized control. Two open questions in this context are treated here: the impact on network performance of (i) a routing information base and (ii) traffic behavior.
