In industry and the marketplace, new products are often advertised as revolutionary. Although the next big thing may seem unique and innovative, new products are often the evolution of current technology. In fact, in EDA, a revolution in technology often means a disruption of established work flows. Yet, the source of most innovation in EDA is the start-up company developing the revolutionary tool. This is how most big EDA companies acquire their new technologies. Unfortunately, revolutionary technologies prevent or slow down integration into the flow. Requiring a disruption to the flow, however, often results in missing the project schedule.
