Evolution of Light Sensor Integration
Light sensing devices, from simple photo-diodes and photo-transistors, have existed for more than a decade. These sensors have evolved to include the ability to measure light color in addition to being used for IR proximity detection. They have also become more discriminate in terms of their photopic light sensing capability in terms of accurately measuring the RGB components of the lighting environment. The proliferation of display-based devices, the need to manage the power consumption and providing quality viewing along with the user-interface experience have been a driving force for integration of light-sensing.
