The Controller Area Network (CAN) is a popular serial communication protocol that provides reliable high−speed data transmission in harsh environments for a multitude of applications ranging from automotive to industrial control. Bus protection circuits can be used to increase the CAN transceivers noise immunity for EMI and ESD. This application note provides guidelines for selecting CAN bus protection circuits that can prevent conducted and radiated EMI and ESD noise problems without significantly adding to the cost and complexity of the transceiver circuit.
