In this paper, we present a methodology for evaluating processor performance on DSP applications based on BDTI’s well-known DSP benchmarks. Unlike processor vendors’ benchmarks, the BDTI Benchmarks are independent and objective, ensuring fair comparisons. In addition, the BDTI Benchmarks are designed to minimize the impact of varying programmer skill, ensuring true measurement of processor performance. We explain the limitations of the BDTI Benchmarks and the careful analysis required to apply results to a specific application.
