With increased demand for smartphones and wireless PC tablets, the mobile Internet is connecting more users and requires a substantial increase in network capacity. 4G LTE promises to deliver greater spectrum efficiency and higher capacity with lower cost. The evolving LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) enables a heterogeneous networks with higher bandwidth, higher throughput and more advanced antenna techniques. WCDMA standards are also evolving with more aggregated bandwidth and higher throughput. The market demands multistandard base stations. SoC devices must support LTE, WCDMA and other standards, all simultaneously. This paper shares the “cycles of learning” from 10+ years of success leading up to our latest wireless base station SoCs.
