Considerations for File System Selection for Flash Memory in Embedded Systems
Samsung’s F2FS and other flash-friendly file systems have significant differences from their counterparts designed for rotating hard drives. Taking into account the characteristics of NAND flash memory-based storage devices, such as solid-state disks, eMMC and SD media, flash-friendly file systems incorporate structural and behavioral differences tuned for this more complex hardware environment. This paper compares performance, endurance, and power efficiency characteristics of leading file systems running on embedded systems.
