Building on the promise of Wireless Sensor Networks
While the wireless revolution is in full swing, one sector still lacks a truly pervasive wireless technology. That sector is Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). WSNs are characterized by low power, low cost “nodes” comprising sensor, RF transceiver, microcontroller, and small capacity battery in a compact form factor that can communicate with many other nodes in a network. There are some budding candidates vying for market share in the WSN sector but none has reached a dominant position. That’s perhaps not surprising when considering the technical challenges that need to be overcome. This paper reviews the WSN sector and describes one competitive solution.
