With the introduction of PICMG 2.16, a key new tool for application developers was introduced in backplane Ethernet and packet switching technologies. Using this new tool, developers have been able to create service provider and carrier solutions at densities previously impos-sible with TDM backplane switching and H.110. This article will show the capabilities CompactPCI vendors are delivering to the market and how application developers are utilizing backplane packet switching in high-density applications.
