Home data usage and media consumption have dramatically changed. Proliferation of over-the-top (OTT) streaming services and increased penetration of mobile devices has resulted in personalized viewing habits, which has increased the minimum aggregate Wi-Fi data rate need to multi-hundreds of Mbps. Furthermore, these devices can be located anywhere. Hence, it is paramount to ensure whole-home coverage. Current gateways are being deployed with 4 transmitters and 4 receivers (4×4 MIMO). To improve overall coverage, repeaters and/or multiple Wi-Fi nodes capable of networking with each other are added, which causes lower network capacity. A better solution is home gateways supporting 8×8 MU-MIMO.
