One of the most far reaching inventions of the last century has been the microprocessor. This little computer built on a tiny sliver of silicon has invaded almost every aspect of civilized society. As the technology of the microprocessor has advanced over the last four decades so has its ability to connect to more devices in the real world or work in concert with other microprocessors and create large computer systems. In this article we will take a look at the technology that has made this possible and study the capabilities of the most advanced version of the interconnect fabric delivered by Intel called the Intel QuickPath Interconnect or Intel QPI.
