Traditional high frequency analysis (HFA) of integrated circuit designs is based on an empirical approach, which is slow and cumbersome. It is costly to develop the initial model for an IC process, and very difficult to evolve the model to meet changing requirements and situations. The resulting models are computationally-intensive, and slow turnaround time places extreme time-to-market pressure on designers. This paper discusses the limitations of traditional approaches, and describes a new method to overcome many of the challenges of HFA in advanced integrated circuits.
