A typical developer workflow during active development consists of multiple steps and moving parts. As such, introducing a coding standard into this day-to-day process can be time consuming and intrusive. To help alleviate the additional burden of compliance, industry standards recommend automated static analysis to help enforce and document coding standard compliance. This paper discusses what it really means to achieve coding standard compliance, using MISRA C 2012 and SEI CERT C as examples, and how to accelerate compliance with tool automation, dedicated reporting, and workflow management, drastically reducing the manual effort required.
