This paper analyzes the IP block of the hardware accelerator and explains how it provides performance advantages versus standard software TCP handling methods. Industrial Ethernet requires efficient packet handling to enable communication that is as deterministic as possible. The problem with TCP/IP protocol is the inherent latency when TCP checks the delivery of data and retransmits that data if it wasn’t successfully received. The Renesas R-IN32M3 industrial networking controller has a unique Ethernet accelerator built into the hardware to facilitate the processing of the datagrams without loading up the CPU.
