AC induction motors (ACIM), both single and three-phase, are one of the most common motors in the world. Electronic drives for these types of motors can enhance efficiency and extend performance, enabling their use in an even wider array of applications. Eight-bit microcontrollers often comprise the core of an electronic ACIM drive. This paper shows how three-phase ACIM control is implemented with an 8-bit microcontroller, and discusses control strategies for a variety of applications. A working demonstration is featured.
