Video: DSPs focus on vision systems

Texas Instruments Inc. (Houston) has added two digital signal processors to its DaVinci line, The TMS320DM647 and TMS320DM648 target multichannel video surveillance and infrastructure applications, including digital video recorders, Internet Protocol video servers and machine vision systems. Compared with TI’s existing TMS320DM642, the new parts are said to offer a doubling in performance and a lower bill-of-materials cost. The chips themselves start at $40 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
