PCIe-to-PCI-X bridge offers low power in small package

Designers eager to upgrade their PCI designs to the rapidly growing PCI-Express (PCIe) interconnect standard should take a good look at this bridging chip that is said to offer the smallest package and lowest power consumption of any PCIe device on the market. The PLX ExpressLane PEX 8114 PCIe-to-PCI-X bridge is packaged in a 17-mm X 17-mm standard plastic BGA, and burns a maximum of 2-Watts of power. It consumes about 25% of the board space and offers power dissipation at about a quarter of competitive parts.
