Microcontroller-based IC unifies battery-pack management

San Jose, Calif. – Atmel Corporation bills its ATmega406 as the first of the company’s “high-voltage” single-chip microcontrollers for implementing total monitoring and protection for 2-4 cell lithium-ion battery packs. The chip, a member of the company’s AVR 8-bit RISC (reduced instruction set) family, is touted as the only fully configurable product for meeting the high-acccuracy and reliability requirements for smart battery packs and at the lowest system cost.
