Glitch-free buck-boost outperforms SEPICs

Milpitas, Calif – Linear Technology touts its LTC3780 as the only “true buck-boost controller” IC today, i.e., one that generates no glitches whatsoever during (seamless) switching transitions from the buck to boost mode and vice versa, or for input transients or step changes in load. Designs using it are simpler (especially with respect to magnetic design considerations) and perform better in many applications than the popular single-ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC), according to the company, and take up less board space.
