For example, we’ve heard from many of our customers who are developing industrial equipment that they need to design simple interfaces that can tolerate harsh operating environments subject to noise, dirt and liquids which can interfere with the reliable operation of mechanical buttons. We recommend capacitive touch technology to those customers because it offers an exciting and cost-effective alternative to mechanical buttons across industrial and commercial applications. For example, mechanical push buttons on a coffee pot have seams in which liquid and coffee grounds can seep into the enclosure, potentially causing damage. With a touch-based user interface (UI), an appliance can be protected by a seamless metal or plastic enclosure.
