Supporting a successful LTE transition requires a number of innovations in base station SoC design. TI's new multicore SoC architecture, called "KeyStone", is designed to optimize WCDMA and LTE performance while reducing base station cost and power. An essential part of KeyStone is the implementation of configurable coprocessors for the Physical Layer (PHY) or Layer 1 of the wireless standards. This paper explores how TI's TCI6616 wireless system-on-chip (SoC), based on the KeyStone multicore SoC architecture provides an optimized PHY LTE solution, a streamlined development cycles for manufacturers and demonstrates the potential for eNobeB solutions with lower capital expenditure and operating expenses.
