Adding Wireless Networking to an Embedded System
This paper examines the process of adding wireless connectivity to an embedded device by integrating an off-the-shelf 802.11b PC Card. The paper provides an overview of 802.11b technology. Hardware issues, such as the necessary components, the interfaces they provide, and how to write software to communicate with those components.
This paper discusses accessing the PC Card, device configuration, and the link layer protocol format. The paper reviews some potential problems, describes the tools necessary to test and debug an implementation, and presents some milestones to target when writing a driver.
