Technology has advanced to the point where virtually any device with an electrical current passing through it can be networked. As manufacturers of common devices design and ship products with embedded networking and interoperability protocols, it will spur the development of applications and on-line services, leveraging this phenomenon. This white paper introduces the future of home networking and also provides an overview of the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) architecture for pervasive peer-to-peer network connectivity of PCs, intelligent appliances, and wireless devices.
