The use of multi-core system on chip (SoC) products in the networking devices has become very popular in the recent years. The architecture and design of these systems have become very challenging due to the complexity and constraints for high performance, cost, and power. The performance modeling and analysis has become an integral part of the architecture definition and validation of these systems. This class highlights the early performance analysis challenges such as application characterization and modeling, latency and bandwidth estimates, memory subsystems performance, and bottleneck analysis. Some of the performance modeling and analysis techniques that were used at Freescale are described through examples in this class.
