A DSC offers traditional DSP features, such as single-cycle multiply-accumulate (MAC) units, barrel shifters and large accumulators, and also incorporates control-oriented peripherals. Power conversion techniques are used in a multitude of everyday applications, such as traditional power supplies, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), renewable energy converters and motor control. With many more sophisticated applications arising in conjunction with saving energy (ultimately, helping to protect the environment) and reducing system cost, embedded system developers have engineered more complex control technologies for power conversion applications, such as soft switching techniques and adaptive control. These new control techniques depend on controllers that have suitable peripherals.
