Course Overview:
Brushless DC (BLDC) motors are replacing in many applications traditionally associated with brushed solutions, such as white goods, automobiles, and HVAC. Advantages include lower noise, longer life and improved energy efficiency.

But BLDC motors require substantially more complex drive circuits, typically including a combination of power, protection, and control functions. Correctly partitioning a BLDC drive system – i.e., determining the best combination of discrete vs. integrated devices – depends on a number of application factors including cost, time-to-market, type of BLDC motor selected, space available, and operating environment.

This course will discuss the design issues involved and how to determine the mix of discrete vs. integrated.
