Overview:
The cellular wireless industry is at a key phase in its evolution path from today's third-generation systems towards next generation (4G) systems. The new 3GPP Release 6 specification is a step in that direction with the inclusion of high-speed uplink packet access (HSUPA) technology that enables high-speed symmetrical data communications such as voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) and multimedia. For future specifications, complex signal processing techniques such as multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) along with new radio technologies such as orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) and multicarrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) are considered key to achieve target throughputs in excess of 100 Mbps. All these enabling technologies pose significant challenges for OEMs who need to design base stations that are not only scalable and cost effective but also flexible and re-usable across multiple evolving standards.
This webcast describes how FPGAs can be used to address the implementation challenges associated with next generation base station designs, including the inherent performance, flexibility, cost, and time-to-market requirements.
At the webcast, attendees will learn:
- An overview of 3GPP standards evolution including Release 6 & beyond
- An overview of enabling technologies such as HSUPA, MIMO & OFDMA
- Key trends & challenges in next generation base station designs including SDR
- How to do reconfigurable & scalable design of channel & RF cards using FPGAs
- How to achieve cost & power targets using structured ASICs
Who Should Attend
- Wireless system design architects
- FPGA & ASIC hardware developers
- Developers of software for embedded & digital signal processing applications
- Engineering & technical managers
