Design Techniques for Best Performance, Power and Cost
Overview:
The electronic gadgets that provide high quality audio, video, data, or all three, are spiraling up the processing power that is needed to process these signals. Digital signal processing (DSP) systems, within both infrastructure and customer premise equipment must provide increasing levels of performance and flexibility to handle the new requirements. They must also provide greater scalability for achieving higher economies of scale.

Xilinx Virtex™-4 FPGAs represent the ideal solution for high performance digital signal processing by:

  • Delivering high-performance signal processing tasks traditionally serviced by an ASIC or ASSP
  • Enabling you to create high-performance DSP engines that can boost the signal processing performance of your system for a host of applications including digital communications and video/imaging.
  • Providing you with the ideal choice to increase system level performance by complementing a programmable DSP system as either a pre- or co-processor.
Webcast attendees will learn:

  • The low cost benefits of designing with the built in cascade logic of the XtremeDSP Slice
  • How optimized hard implementation of the XtremeDSP Slice enables extremely low power designs
  • How the XtremeDSP™ Slice?operating at a blazing 500 MHz? at the heart of Virtex-4 FPGA's delivers industry leading DSP processing performance

Who Should Attend

  • ASIC and FPGA engineers
  • Designers of complex, high-performance systems
  • System architects
  • Engineering or technical managers
Presented by:
Niall Battson, Technical Marketing Engineer, Xilinx
Niall Battson is a Technical Marketing Engineer in the Xilinx DSP Division. He holds a honors degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of East Anglia in England. Niall joined Xilinx in 2000 and spent two years on the Xilinx technical hotline before becoming a DSP Product Applications Engineer, where he developed two digital signal processing courses and filed his first patent , "JTAG hardware cosimulation" that is evident in System Generator for DSP. In his latest position in the newly formed Xilinx DSP Division, Niall focuses on highly efficient DSP hardware design techniques, and also presents in prestigious worldwide events such as Xilinx Programmable World and Texas Instruments Developers Conference.
