Overview:

A panel of industry experts will discuss why FPGA IP has been so important to the adoption of FPGA technology in the embedded marketplace. They will explore which key trends and challenges facing embedded designers. Panelists also will explore topics related to FPGA IP such as:

  4. integrating IP from multiple vendors in a single design, and more

Rich's key responsibilities include setting the editorial direction for Embedded Systems Design magazine, the Embedded.com Web site, the global Embedded Systems Conferences, and the RFID World Web site and conference. Rich also handles the editorial for Embedded Systems Design Europe. He's been in the Electronics OEM industry for over 20 years. Before taking on the top editorial role for the Embedded and RFID franchises, Rich oversaw CMP's DesignLine network of design engineering Web sites. Prior to that, he spent six years as the Editor-in-Chief of Portable Design magazine, where he drove the editorial to new heights while launching a magazine and technical conference in China. Preceding that, Rich was a Technology Editor with Electronic Design magazine. He holds a BSEE degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Hugo Andrade

Hugo Andrade is a Principal Architect in the LabVIEW Platform and Real-time Group at National Instruments, which he joined in 1989. Mr. Andrade earned BS degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Sciences and an MS degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. While at National Instruments, he has led standardization efforts on instrument control software, led the research and early development of LabVIEW FPGA, and now works on new system level applications for LabVIEW FPGA and LabVIEW Embedded on FPGAs and related technologies.

Jim Hwang
Director of DSP Engineering

Jim Hwang received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He has been with Xilinx since 1994, where he currently holds the title of Director, DSP Engineering. He is the chief architect of the Xilinx System Generator and oversees the development of DSP intellectual property cores, Xilinx Core Generator, and the AccelDSP MATLAB synthesis tool. He has served on the Program Committees of the International Conference of Field-Programmable Technology (FPT) and the International Conference on Field Programmable Logic and Applications (FPL). He has published papers and holds over 20 patents (issued and pending) in the areas of design methodologies, physical design, module generation, and system level design.

Ralph Bodenner
Director of Engineering

Ralph Bodenner is Director of Engineering at Impulse, responsible for current and future versions of Impulse C. Mr. Bodenner has a rich background in tools for reconfigurable computing, starting with the software tools team at QuickSilver Technology. Within Impulse, Mr. Bodenner is bringing software development methodologies to bear on the complex problem of hardware/software codesign. This includes issues of generating high quality of results in hardware using the fast development cycle common to software development. Mr. Bodenner is a graduate of Duke University.

Ralph von Vignau is Senior Director in the Corporate Innovation & Technology - IP & Architecture Group within NXP Semiconductors. Von Vignau is a management team member, manager of the IP Quality and Reuse group, the Standards and Infrastructure Group and the Innovation & Technology Test Chip Program. Von Vignau is also President of The SPIRIT Consortium and on the OSCI Board of Directors. Von Vignau has a bachelor's degree in informatics from the Technical Engineering College of Hamburg, Germany. He currently holds 15 patents, primarily in consumer systems.
