Editorial WebinarThe embedded developers dilemma:How to deliver quality products on budget and on time
Overview:
Embedded silicon vendors are delivering ever more sophisticated processor systems incorporating multiple cores, hardware acceleration, coprocessors and security, and are employing myriad design techniques to improve performance, reduce power dissipation and minimize cost. The inevitable result of such innovation is increased complexity for device manufacturers. Software engineers must become experts in many fields if they are to unlock the full value of the silicon. This inevitably distracts development teams from focusing on their value add: building great products within budget, on time and differentiated from their competitors.

What solutions are available to the developer, both in hardware and software, to simplify his task, and to help him deliver quality products on budget and on time? The panelists on this webinar will look at what is available to the developer today, what they should steer clear of, and what the future holds.

Moderator:
Richard Nass
Editor-in-Chief/Editorial Director
Embedded Systems Design, Embedded.com, Embedded Systems Conferences

Rich's key responsibilities include setting the editorial direction for Embedded Systems Design magazine, the Embedded.com Web site, the global Embedded Systems Conferences, and the RFID World Web site and conference. Rich also handles the editorial for Embedded Systems Design Europe. He's been in the Electronics OEM industry for over 20 years. Before taking on the top editorial role for the Embedded and RFID franchises, Rich oversaw CMP's DesignLine network of design engineering Web sites. Prior to that, he spent six years as the Editor-in-Chief of Portable Design magazine, where he drove the editorial to new heights while launching a magazine and technical conference in China. Preceding that, Rich was a Technology Editor with Electronic Design magazine. He holds a BSEE degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Speakers:
Karl Whealton, Product Manager, Processor Division, ARM Inc.

Karl Whealton is currently managing ARM's high-end Cortex-A8 processor and is responsible for bringing to market a complex microprocessor with an array of new technologies. His focus is on in enabling all key points in the semi-conductor value chain in realizing processor-based systems that make full use of the processor's performance and feature set - which entails implementation, integration, system analysis and software development. Before taking on the Cortex-A8, Karl had stints in engineering, sales and product strategy at ARM. His prior industry experience includes sales at Virtutech, a system simulation company and engineering on the Blackfin line of digital signal processors at Analog Devices.

Jacko Wilbrink, ARM Product Marketing Director, Atmel Corp.

Jacko Wilbrink has over 20 years experience in the semiconductor industry. He started his career as a design engineer with Philips Semiconductor before moving to European Silicon Structures as a Field Application Engineer and then into marketing. Jacko is currently ARM Product Marketing Director for Atmel Corp. and has been directly involved with the Atmel ARM product line from its inception in 1996. Jacko holds an electronic engineering degree from the University of Twente, the Netherlands.
