Overview:
Capacitive sensing detects the presence or absence of a conductive object, like a finger.
A single capacitive sensing device can replace dozens of mechanical switches and controls with an elegant touch-sensitive interface. The solution supports touch screens and proximity sensing for superior product differentiation.
Capacitive-sensing-based "button" and "slider" controls are more reliable than their mechanical counterparts because they are resistant to environmental wear and tear, temperature change and moisture. Capacitive sensing can be used as a replacement to membrane switches and it also works with a variety of non-conductive overlay materials of varying thickness.
This webinar will cover how an on-off switch was implemented in an ice-hockey blade using capacitive sensing. It will show how capacitive sensing solves the challenges of designing a switch that is:
Water resistant
Capable of withstanding high impact
Low power
Reliable
Low cost
Has easy final assembly for high volume production
