Microcontroller Choices & Answers: Selecting the Best Microcontroller for a Mechatronic Design
Overview:
Mechanical systems interact with the world around them in various ways. When there's electronics and firmware involved, it's important to choose the best microncontroller available for the job at hand. Join our moderator and his experienced guest from Freescale, so you can make smarter processor selection decisions.

What You'll Learn:

  • The types of features available in modern microntrollers
  • The importance of software development tool availability
  • The significance of code-compatible families of related parts
  • How to select the best fit microcontroller for use in your system

    Presenters:
Michael Barr - Expert on the design of embedded computer systems

Michael Barr is an internationally recognized expert on the design of embedded computer systems. In that role, he has provided expert witness testimony in federal court, appeared on PBS' American Business Review, and been quoted in various newspapers. He is also the author of two books and more than forty articles on related subjects. For three and a half years Michael served as editor-in-chief of Embedded Systems Programming. In addition, Michael has been a member of the advisory board of the Embedded Systems Conference. Software he wrote continues to power millions of products, ranging from consumer electronics to medical devices. Michael holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering and has lectured in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland. He also has an MBA.

Inga Harris - Applications Engineering Team, Freescale Semiconductor
Inga Harris graduated from the University of Strathclyde with an Honors Degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering with Business Studies and joined Motorola - now Freescale in East Kilbride, Scotland as a Technical Market Development Engineer, spending a great deal of time visiting customers' design locations and defining new products for those markets, before moving in to the East Kilbride Applications Engineering Team who cover the 8, 16 and 32-bit microcontroller portfolio for Automotive and Consumer and Industrial products. Inga was one of the eight global finalists of a Disruptive Innovation contest in 2007 and has published numerous articles and Application Notes in the 8- and 32-bit microcontroller field. Her expertise lies in Freescales 8-bit microcontrollers and the controller continuum, with experience of competitors cores too. She is currently working on her first patentable application regarding in-car child safety
